We had such a wonderful weekend celebrating our risen Savior. I told Spencer on Sunday night that I saw Easter in a completely different light this year. Having grown up in a christian home I have heard the easter story every year since I was born, that’s 25 times to be exact. Not saying that this is the case for all people, but I think that we tend to grow used to hearing the story and maybe allow the magnitude of it all become a little bit jaded.
Now that I am playing the role of teacher to my small children I think that it’s important not to just tell them a really interesting “story” but to help them realize that this day that we celebrate is what brings purpose to our lives.
If there had been no resurrection then what would we be doing? We wouldn’t be worshiping the living God with the way we live out our lives, we wouldn’t be teaching our children to believe in Him and follow His plans for their lives, we wouldn’t be sharing the hope of Jesus with others.
It’s because Jesus was born and died on the cross and rose again that we do everything we do.
Saturday I kept trying to put myself mentally in the place that his followers were in all those years ago on the day after his death. Here was this man that they had come to love, follow and believe in and he was dead. Can you imagine their grief? (I try to, but because I know the rest of the story it makes it hard to truly comprehend.)
but then
Sunday morning came and they went to his grave, completely expecting him to be there….still dead.
But He wasn’t.
Can you imagine their joy?!?! I mean an overwhelming, unimaginable feeling that He was indeed who He claimed to be, and that the grave had no power over Him!
I speak for myself when I say that we need to not let the world taint the truth that is Easter. The truth that it’s about the resurrection of the One who died for my sin, so that I can experience true forgiveness and experience the gift of eternal life.
That is the Jesus that I want to teach my children about, not just on Easter. But every single day.
Now, how do I begin to even change to the topic of eggs, chocolate treats and new pastel church clothes?
I’ll let the pictures do the talking!

Do you know how hard it is just to get a picture with everyone’s eyes open? Obviously it’s quite difficult!
