Beautiful Day!

Oct 5, 2010 by

Happy October 5th! I just realized I hadn’t posted since September :-) We have been having beautiful weather and I love love love it! I hope it stays this way, cool in the mornings and evenings and not miserable during the days!

This past weekend on Saturday night Spencer got to have a guys night to watch football and I got to have a girls night of shopping and dinner. It was wonderful! I bought my very first Christmas gift last Thursday and since then have finished shopping for about 75% of my list! We trade names in Spencer’s family and in mine and I know exactly what I am getting for the last 3 people on our list, I just have to go get it! After that I just have to finish stockings for the boys and Spencer. That always takes me a little longer because I don’t always know exactly what I want to get….any good ideas? :-)

I hadn’t even thought about Christmas shopping until last week when I got emails about who I had to buy for, but now I am super motivated to get it done. I told Spencer that my goal was to finish my shopping before we close on the house, that way I can focus all my attention on house projects!

Speaking of the house, I have been shopping, shopping, shopping for that as well….price shopping that is! I have been to Home Depot or Lowe’s almost everyday in the last week and scouring online for prices on cabinets, countertops, flooring, trim, faucets, etc. I have picked out paint for all the bedrooms and  even made some pillows last week! I want to make sure that we are getting the best price on everything so our money can go farther. I have honestly been praying that the Lord would allow us to find good deals on the things we need and He is already answering that prayer!

Saturday night I asked Spencer to build some boxes for me to pack in and I think he thought I was crazy! He put his hand on my shoulder and said, “you do realize it could be two months before we actually move, right?” Haha! Maybe he thinks I am jumping the gun or something!? :-) So far I have just packed the things that we hardly/never use. The dishes in the china cabinet, games, some wall decorations, two drawers of random stuff and my fun dishes. Last night I went through both bathrooms and packed up stuff that is extra or only gets used infrequently and the decorations from the bathrooms as well. I told Spencer that packing and cleaning stuff is really satisfying my need to nest! I am sure that come the middle of December I will have had enough cleaning and organizing to last me awhile! But for now I am just enjoying the process and doing a little bit at a time to make it less overwhelming!

Today I had my 28 week doctor appointment for Zachary. It was one of those appointments where it took me longer to drive there than it did to see the doctor! I like it that way though, nice and uneventful!

I haven’t taken many pictures lately, but here are some from last week that I thought I would share!

Spencer and the boys before church on Wednesday night…..going all out for Black Team spirit points! !No this is not our car, Spencer borrowed it from our friend’s dealership!)

The best picture I could get of the two boys together, someone is always talking :-) This was the day we went to have lunch with daddy and found out that we got the new house!

DSC_7756

My little J-man. I had to take a picture of him in this outfit. It was Joel’s and then Andrew wore it and this was the first time I put it on Joshua, I love it!

Hope you are having a beautiful day!

Yummy Dessert & Baby Prep

Sep 28, 2010 by

Last Friday night I made a super easy recipe for dessert to take to our small group. I got it from my mother-in-law, but I am sure there are different variations!

Chocolate Cherry Cake

1 box chocolate cake mix

2 eggs

1 can cherry pie filling

1 tsp almond extract

5 T butter

6 oz semisweet chocolate chips

1/3 C milk

1 C sugar

Mix together the cake mix, eggs, pie filling and almond extract. Place in a greased 9×13 dish and bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes. In a saucepan melt the butter, chocolate chips, milk and sugar. Bring to a boil and let boil for one minute. Pour over warm cake. Mmmmmm….enjoy!

Sunday night I had the sudden urge to nest. I made a list of everything that needs done before Zachary comes and Spencer offered to take the boys to the playground so I could get their room organized. I cleaned out all the clothes that don’t fit them anymore, pulled out what they will be able to wear this winter, and pulled out the newborn boy clothes so they are handy when I am ready to wash them.

I don’t know that I am technically “nesting” but it might just take me 12 weeks to get everything done with two other kids, so I guess it can’t hurt to start now!

DSC_7724

I am so thankful for a good friend that has a little boy between the boys’ age and is having a little girl in January. They aren’t planning on having any more kids and she was so sweet to let me go through her boy clothes and pick things out for Zachary. He now has a bunch of “new” things to wear that are in great shape and haven’t been worn by his two older brothers! I am looking forward to having some fun new things to dress him in too!

DSC_7725

It’s getting harder and harder to keep all the boys clothes so they can be passed down the line….I might have to stop being so practical and actually part with some baby boy clothes as Zachary outgrows them to make storage room for the clothes that Andrew is outgrowing!

Does anyone spy a box that doesn’t belong????

DSC_7726

Yep, there is one lone box labeled “little girls.” When I was pregnant with Andrew my mom bought me a few outfits for each gender before we knew what we were having, and if there is something that I see and just love (within reason) I buy it. You can’t blame a girl for hoping! :-)

Scoring Deals

Aug 20, 2010 by

The past two weeks I have been taking advantage of “back to school” sales and buying ahead for the boys. It’s always weird to buy clothes that look so big knowing that the boys will fit them in a year!

Last weekend was tax-free weekend here in Florida so I went to our outlet mall and this is what I found! These shirts are all from Oshkosh, each for $2.99 a piece. These are really all the boys wear, all day, everyday – except for church on Sunday. $36 spent for a summers worth of shirts for two boys!

DSC_6953

These are from Gymboree. Everything was $2.99 a piece.

DSC_6956

These were by far the best deal. All of these are from the Children’s Place for $1.99 a piece! The best part is I had a store credit and spent a grand total of $0 and still have money on the store card!

DSC_6958

And even though we have two boys worth of baby stuff already baby #3 has been getting new things of his own that are pretty darn cute!

Few things thrill me as much as a great deal :-)

Family Fun Weekend

Aug 1, 2010 by

We have had a great weekend just the four of us! We started Friday night with Spencer’s kickball tournament. He had a game at 6:30 and if they won they had a game at 8:30. Well the whole team was there and ready to play at 6:30 and the other team never showed up! So it was an automatic win for us and we were left with 2 hours to waste before the next game. The boys go to bed at 8 but I really wanted to see the game so we decided to go to McDonald’s for a treat and then come back in time for the game.

Our boys love to run, play and most importantly….get DIRTY! After rolling around in the clay for a few hours their bath water was a nice shade of brown! God sure has a sense of humor giving me three boys :-)

DSC_6631 DSC_6629

Saturday morning we went swimming at Spencer’s parents house and thoroughly wore the boys out. We came home to eat lunch and Joshua was so exhausted he was sleep-eating! *Disclaimer – we did not let him stay like this, we took a picture and scooped the food from his mouth so he wouldn’t choke :-)

DSC_6635

On Saturday afternoon we had the idea to make a tent for the boys to play in. I thought we would throw a blanket over the table or something, but Spencer decided to go all out and make a really cool tent :-)

DSC_6643 DSC_6650 DSC_6654

Then something must have come over me because I suggested we eat dinner in our tent….messes are my biggest challenge and I just kept reminding myself that if something went terribly wrong that it was my idea :-) Thankfully we made it out without any huge messes!

DSC_6660

We cleaned up from dinner and read some books.

After we got the boys to bed I headed to Target to make a return and scored some deals.

DSC_6700

We are in the process of planning a room-switch with the boys. We are going to put all three munchkins in the master and we are going to move to their room. We have two cribs and will be getting a twin bed for Andrew to move into. I am going to work with the furniture we have but I am going to re-do the bedding and some of the decor. When I found two sets of crib bedding for $16 a piece, I figured Spencer would agree that it was in the budget! I also picked up a new sleeper for little dude for $2.50 and the polo romper at TJ Maxx for $10.00!

This morning we had a great time of worship at church and then came home for lunch. We decided to go on a bike adventure this afternoon. We got Subway and went to GT Bray to eat and let the boys play. It was SO HOT! I am so ready for a break from this humidity! As we were leaving the park Andrew said to Spencer, “look Daddy, it’s a diamond” as he held his hands up in a diamond shape! He shocks us with some of the stuff he knows! This may sound silly but the one cartoon he watches in the morning is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and I know he is learning some of this stuff from it!

Hope you all had a great weekend too!

Good Finds

May 11, 2010 by

Today I had the chance to go to Kohl’s all by myself! I had found some necklaces online and fell in love with them but when I went to order them they were gone. Well today was my lucky day because I found all the necklaces I wanted on SUPER clearance in the store!

If you like gaudy necklaces then I suggest you run to your nearest Kohl’s and do what I did….but the same necklace in all four colors :-)

DSC_4593 DSC_4600 DSC_4601

The total was $35 for 6 necklaces and one pair of earrings, I had a $5 coupon and had an in-store-credit so I spent a grand total of $0! That’s my favorite kind of shopping!

After Kohl’s I met my sisters-in-law at the Sarasota splash park with the kids and we had a great time playing in the water and then on the playground. The boys were officially worn out! Here’s proof :-)

Happy Tuesday!

Show Us Your Life – Fashion Tips

Jan 30, 2010 by

I didn’t think I had anything to share today, but then I remembered this

DSC_2157

DSC_2158

Yes, I was voted Best Dressed my senior year of high school, certainly that must make me a certified guru…right? Think again. Since having children I feel like I am clinging to whatever smidgen of “style” I have left. I no longer have the money or the time to pour over style magazines, so here are the “tips” I have used to get me through the transitions of pregnancy, motherhood and the in-betweens!

1. LAYER – If something is too low-cut, too short, or just too plain then layer it with a tank top or lace-trimmed cami for a little versatility. I layer everything; tee-shirts, button-ups, sweaters, cardigans, everything.

DSCN5773.JPG

2. Own a jean jacket – Let me preface this by saying I do NOT wear my jean jacket with JEANS. I have 3 jean jackets, I wear them over dresses, with skirts, with bermuda shorts, it’s the perfect way to keep warm and still be cute.

3. If you like something, try it – I am all about trying something trendy. I wore (fake) Uggs with mini-skirts, ponchos and flowers in my hair in high school because that was what I saw in the magazines….and I totally got made fun of, but I didn’t care because I liked it!

DSCN4960

4. Own something girly – There are times when you want to feel dressed up in jeans and it’s always good to have a sparkly, frilly, metallic or flirty top to dress up a plain pair of jeans.

DSCN5041.JPG

5. Accessories, accessories, accessories – As a mommy there are days that I just do not want to wear anything but shorts and a tank top, but you can bet that I will at least have a big ol’ pair of dangly earrings on. In the winter I will wear a solid color tee with a scarf to make it more exciting. Accessories are the best way to take an outfit from one trend period to another. I love fashion jewelry because you can find it cheap, which is great because in two weeks it will be out of style anyways ;-)

6. Sport a bright smile – Any outfit looks better with pearly whites! (Yes, I realize I sound like a commercial right now!) I started using Crest White Strips in high school and one box made a HUGE difference, I still use about one box a year. Remember, you’re never fully dressed without a SMILE! (Insert cheesy grin here)
